imagine and play

John Seely Brown and Doug Thomas recently released a new book, A New Culture of Learning.

I heard about it from John Hagel (who co-authored The Power of Pull with Brown).

Hagel’s review is a super read. Yeah, you should maybe read it.

It encouraged me to start working on this:

Then my friend Adam, sent me the link to Gever Tulley’s latest project, his summer tinkering camps are going full school fall 2011. This is very exciting. I see similarity with their arc or one-of-a-kind k-12 curriculum and our detox.

It encouraged me to start working on this.

  1. Very cool!

    I love the notion of imagination and play both as separate entities and yet linked so closely. Love the visual, too. It helps make the learning process make sense. At first I saw it through the lens of my own children and then it spurred some difficult, almost painful questions about why that’s not happening as much in my own 8th grade classroom as it should be.

  2. I continue to marvel at how you are able to frame and execute visions in the lab. I need a meet up to go over the prep work. Any students working on quantum teleportation or something?

  3. thanks guys. i’m amazed and humbled daily at how much i assume. when that’s what i’m presuming to not do. you know?
    really digging into the whole tacit knowledge thing.
    how have i not swam in this ocean before…
