     In the piece I cut away from the joke, after critiquing the zip-code-as-destiny trope (as a fatalistic, economically crippling, unilateral test-centric view on children & communities’ self-determination), I asked

     What is our destiny [as educators]? In which zip code? Where do we need to go, where are we being called, and will we go there without someone telling us to?

     That’s where I am with it. Working, baffled, determined, sad, hopeful, planning, reacting, speaking, suspicious approaching certain.

     I hope the joke gets me the warm-up spot before Duncan speeches.
