Archive Post: Adam Burk’s Education for Sane Planetary Citizenship

I have been thinking lately about how to revisit some of the older posts and discussions at the Cooperative Catalyst now that we have a wider readership and larger group of authors. My idea is that we would all take turns picking a post or two to revisit. The first post I choose came from the very first week of the CO-OP and was written by Adam Burk.

After seeing Waiting for Superman (WFS) yesterday, I needed to read something that truly analyzed the system not just on the surface, but really gets to the roots of what education can be!  Adam’s vision of an education and life is one of wholeness with both our planetary self and our inner and outer self.  These are the kind of conversations I wish were apart of WFS, but luckily we have the CO-OP for these kinds of discussions.

Please follow the link below and add your comments to the original post or here.

And if there is another post you would like to revisit, let us know.

Education for Sane Planetary Citizenship

March 1, 2010

Education needs to be for the development of profoundly sane personalities. It is nothing less that will bring about the environmental restoration and rejuvenation necessary to avoid the worst of possible scenarios. It is nothing less that will bring about an end to armed conflict. It is nothing less that will be able to confront the problems yet to be known.

  1. Speaking of Planetary Citizenship! There is a new movie coming out soon about Paul Goodman one of my favorite social radical thinkers and the filmmaker is using the film as a catalyst for change…..

  3. Adam, as a structural note. I feel that the archive post idea would be helped a bit if it was actually reposted. I generally find that the more clicks that are required of me, the less like I’m going to do it. As an example, I’ve come to this page 3 times, and followed the link to the original post once. I suspect wordpress will allow you to reset the posting time of the original to “right now” and it will show up amongst the current post. You could then put your re-introduction paragraph on the post itself.

  4. This was posted by me. As I believe there is something in picking a post that is not your own to showcase. Though I do understand what your saying. Though we have had a good amount of views to Adam’s original post from this one. Do think there is something to having the original post live in the time and place that is was originally posted and now, if that can happen that would be the best. Maybe just a copy and paste of the original with a link to the comment section of the other…. lets brainstorm this…. any other ideas?

  5. Hi David,

This might be a worthwhile wordpress plugin if it doesn’t already exist. Do you know if we can add plugins to blogs hosted on

If it is an interesting enough idea, I could look into the plugin interface to see what it would take.
