definitely normal?

My daughter asks Google to define success via her cell phone. Twenty seconds and her phone spits out the following:

Perhaps we could take heed. Are we keeping from things that matter because we’re afraid to allow for no definites? Can we just acknowledge success is subjective? There is no standard, no normal. Nothing is for everyone. If we could free the masses to follow this up… to realize their options…

When teachers used to say, “You’ll need this in the real world,” my response was almost always, “then what kind of fantasy land is this?”

Nearly every time it led to laughter.

Then I learned that my most earnest questions would be laughed at.

And I learned to be silent.

i wish our future educational secretaries could be as humble as the google search bar. i think it may be too late for our current one…given his fascination with standardized test scores as THE measure of success for students and teachers alike (despite lip service to the contrary)

Monika, I struggle with the idea of “needing” a text any one way, but I think we need the book/guide to this work to share out with a broader and broader audience.

John and I spoke some this week about hosting alternative long-form texts here – I think this dovetails with past conversations I’ve had with Adam about curating some of our work into action guides.

Let us know if/how more and more of the history and work of your project coalesces into a collection of any sort.
