Visualizing tomorrow’s session about how school could change to support the work we love as adults, I can see #mozfest and school as the same invitation to ask and imagine what’s possible in our classrooms.
Can we imagine our classrooms as beautiful places? What would that mean for us and our kids and their learning?
Can we imagine our classrooms as whimsical places? What would that mean for the complexity and sophistication of kids’ work?
Can we imagine our classrooms as wondrous places? What would that mean for the structures, schedules, and materials?
Can we imagine our classrooms as open places? What would that mean for doors, walls, ceilings, and floors?
Can we imagine our classrooms as caring places? What would that mean for kids’ experiences with us?
Can we imagine our classrooms as inquiring places? What would that mean for authority and learning?
Can we imagine our classrooms as egalitarian and democratic safe for the that identities kids develop for themselves? What would that mean for us together?
Can we imagine kids in control of their own learning and us in charge of ours? Can we imagine our work happening as it should? Can we take just one step at a time toward such a vision knowing that the world won’t end as we help make it better?
I think the world is inviting us to take those steps; I think the world is waiting for its invitation to join us in our classrooms.
