My travel in November derailed some of our work to make a skateboard wheel RPM counter; while that project is idling, some of its participants have gotten deeper into using our MaKey MaKey boards for other projects.
I’ve posted about one of those projects on Democratizing Composition (#demcomp), a kind of companion blog to the Coöp for any and all interested in documenting and reflecting on their work to broaden the definition of literacy in public schools to include more than the consumption and production of printed text. #demcomp is kind of my “what-comes-next” project inspired by our community and work at the Coöp. I hope many of you will join me there.
Here’s the post: “Building readiness.”
Please join in on #demcomp to share out the day-to-day work you’re doing, wherever you are, to help kids find and develop their literacies for learning.
To end this post, here is the opening to the other:
Kids have to own learning. To hold on to it, to connect it, to love it and launch from it – they do. Learning without love isn’t learning; it’s production. It’s not freedom; it’s indenture. It’s not an awakening; it’s a sedation.
