We’re heading to NY, NY, day after tomorrow. We’re going to the Contact conference.  They are looking for the most innovative ideas for social change.

Imagine changing up the 7 hours a day we call school. For 12+ years. Along with the mindset that follows that for years to come. We think changing ed would no doubt be the most innovative idea for social change.

One thing in particular seems to be keeping people from this change. People are too busy.

People are amazing enough to learn whatever. Learning is amazing enough to not be defined by time and space. But most people don’t have time. Not enough time anyway. Most people don’t believe they have enough time to make change that matters, change that lasts.

In the lab this year, three kids decided they needed to resign from the publicly prescribed curriculum if they were going to be a part of this quiet revolution. They said they needed to own their time. That has amped up our new space, the be you house.

We are working out an overarching plan for change that questions our publicly prescribed learning/curriculum, rather than trying to improve the delivery of it. In order for that to happen, we all need time. We need spaces of permission to be, to trust, to do what matters most. Those spaces, are mostly a mindset. And they are mostly about believing you have time.

The cool thing is.. they also create time. They unearth time.

What we hope to gain from this trip, is to be one step closer to creating district and state and national and global spaces of permission, of time, …for you to be you.
